Q: Is the Internet safe and secure to use Internet Account Access?
A: At United Services Credit Union, security is extremely important. Internet Account Access requires a web browser, such as Netscape 4.7 or Microsoft ®Internet Explorer 5.0 because of their built-in security encryption features. If you have an earlier version of these browsers that does not have the security features required you may have trouble being able to login to Internet Account Access.
Q: What level of browser encryption is recommended?
A: A Web browser capable of 128-bit encryption is recommended, although, 40- bit and 56-bit encryption are more than adequate to conduct secure, online transactions. Note: International standards only allow for 40-bit encryption.
Q: How do I check the level of encryption and security that my browser has?
A: In Netscape, go to a secure page then click on View in the main menu, then on page Info. The level of encryption should be shown under Security. In Internet Explorer, go to Help then About Internet Explorer. Some information will appear, including Cipher Strength (encryption level). To determine the security of a Web page within a frame, use the right mouse button to click inside the frame, click Properties on the menu that appears.
Q: Can I use Internet Account Access from outside the U.S.?
A: Internet Account Access can be used anywhere you have Internet connectivity.
Q: Why does the security symbol (lock) disappear from my Internet Explorer browser?
A: The fact that the padlock symbol does not display is a known problem with certain versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser and is currently being addressed by Microsoft. The padlock symbol that appears at the bottom of the login page of Internet Account Access confirms that page is in a secured environment. Once you login to Internet Account Access using certain versions of Internet Explorer, the padlock is no longer visible, even though the sessions are full secured. Newer versions of the Internet Explorer browser should fix this Microsoft issue. Also, you may need to check your security settings in the Internet Control Panel of your computer. If you see the https:// in the web address, you are in a secure session. Alternatively, the Netscape browser does not display this behavior. To ensure the highest level of security available, load the latest version of your web browser.
Q: Are there any security guidelines for Internet Account Access?
A: Yes, You should observe the following security guidelines:
  1. Keep your PIN confidential and private.
  2. Be sure to exit (Log Off) your Internet Account Access session, and close/exit your browser when leaving your computer.
  3. Use a Web browser that supports 40-bit, 56-bit or 128-bit encryption.
  4. Do not store secured pages in your Web browser’s cache (history).
  5. Change your PIN periodically.
Q: Will Internet Account Access automatically close my session if I forget to exit?
A: Yes, Internet Account Access will automatically close your session and disconnect you after a period of inactivity.
Q: Why does the Internet Explorer browser give me a script error on my Macintosh when I exit Internet Account Access?
A: Some versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser display a script error on Macintosh computers when the exit button is clicked in Internet Account Access. This is inherent in the Microsoft Product, and you can click "ok" to by-pass the message box. We have tested this function to be sure that no errors are actually occurring in Internet Account Access. Newer versions of the Internet Explorer should fix this Microsoft issue. Alternatively, the Netscape does not display this behavior.
Q: If I have an earlier version of America Online [AOL], do I have to upgrade to AOL 4.0?
A: It is recommended that you use AOL 5.0, but earlier versions may also work with Internet Account Access. Check with AOL to get the latest version of AOL.
Q: How can I use another browser with America OnLine [AOL]?
A: AOL can be used as the method of connecting to the Internet [like an Internet Service Provider], while viewing your information with a separate browser. This allows you the flexibility of taking advantage of new features of recommended browsers like Netscape and Internet Explorer. Check with AOL to get the latest information regarding this.
Q: If someone knows my Social Security number, can they access my accounts using Internet Account Access?
A: No. You are the only one that can access your account through Internet Account Access if you are enrolled for Internet Account Access, and know the PIN to log in. Someone must know your PIN number to gain access to your account. This is why we recommend keeping your PIN number private and changing it often.
